New product names
The new product names go into effect on April 21, 2020. This is a change to the product name only, and there are no pricing or feature changes at this time.
- Office 365 Business Essentials will become Microsoft 365 Business Basic.
- Office 365 Business Premium will become Microsoft 365 Business Standard.
- Microsoft 365 Business will become Microsoft 365 Business Premium.
- Office 365 Business and Office 365 ProPlus will both become Microsoft 365 Apps. Where necessary we will use the “for business” and “for enterprise” labels to distinguish between the two.

Microsoft 365 Business Basic – Best for businesses that need Microsoft Teams and cloud storage. Desktop versions of Office apps not included. It does however include the web versions of Microsoft Apps.
Microsoft 365 Business Standard – Best for businesses that need Office apps across devices plus business email, cloud file storage, and online meetings and chat.
Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access*, Publisher*. Business-class email with Exchange Online and Outlook). Cloud file storage and sharing with OneDrive and of course a hub for teamwork with chat and online meetings in Microsoft Teams.
Microsoft 365 Business Premium – Best for businesses that need everything included in Business Standard plus advanced cyberthreat protection and device management.
Microsoft 365 Apps for Business – Best for businesses that need Office apps across devices and cloud file storage. Business email and Microsoft Teams not included.
Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise is an enterprise-level subscription offering that includes Office applications and cloud file storage and sharing.
