The NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre) has launched the Suspicious Email Reporting Service, which will make it easy for people to forward suspicious emails to the NCSC – including those claiming to offer services related to coronavirus.

This service is an expansion to the organisations existing takedown services.

These services have already removed more than 2,000 online scams which were relating to COVID-19. These include:

Technology is helping us cope with the coronavirus crisis and will play a role helping us out of it – but that means cyber security is more important than ever.

With greater use of technology, there are different ways attackers can harm all of us. But everyone can help to stop them by following the guidance campaign we have launched today. But even with the best security in place, some attacks will still get through.

That’s why we have created a new national reporting service for suspicious emails – and if they link to malicious content, it will be taken down or blocked. By forward messages to us, you will be protecting the UK from email scams and cyber crime.

Phishing is where a criminal will try to convince a user to click on a link within a scam email or text message. Once the link has been clicked, you may be sent to an unofficial/dodgy website which could download viruses or exploits onto your computer and network.

If you have recevied an email which you are not sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS):

[/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_button button_url=”mailto:report@phishing.gov.uk” button_text=”report@phishing.gov.uk” _builder_version=”4.4.3″ custom_button=”on” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color=”#e09900″][/et_pb_button][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.4.3″ collapsed=”on”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.4.3″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.3″]

The email may be from a company you do not normally receive communications from, or someone you don’t know. If you are suspicious, you should report – better safe than sorry.

Your reporting of phishinh emails will help the NCSC act quickly, protecting many more victims from being affected.

The NCSC will analyse the suspect email and any of the websites in which it is connected. They will use any other information you have provided to monitor and look for suspicous activity.

Please note…

You should not report crimes by contacting the NCSC in this way. If you think you may have been the victim of fraud or cyber crime, you should report this to Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Action Fraud is the UK’s National Fraud and Cyber Crime Reporting Centre.
